The CBTF is monitored by security cameras and proctors for test security and fairness.
Proctors will document and report all suspicious behavior in the CBTF. If you observe any suspicious behavior, you may report it in the "Report Cheating" tab found in the CBTF header.
Any malicious activity in the CBTF will be reported to the course staff concerned. The following are some examples of offenses that are considered cheating. Engaging in at least one of these activities will constitute a full investigation that may lead to an Academic Integrity Report to be submitted to your Instructor:
- Using a cellphone, smartwatch or other electronic device during an exam.
- Bringing in outside paper, index cards, scratch paper, unauthorized Help Sheets, etc. with information about the exam.
- Using a calculator that was not provided by the CBTF.
- Exiting the lab with used or unused CBTF-provided scratch paper
- Starting the exam before the proctor gives the signal.
- Continuing with the exam after the end of time was announced.
- Other activities that violate Academic Integrity guidelines.
Please be familiar with the facility guidelines before coming to the CBTF for your exams.
Before your exam
Arrive 10 minutes before the test and wait in the hall for instructions from the proctor.
Your i-Card is required for check in. If you consistently come to the CBTF without an i-Card, the proctors are authorized to cancel your exam which you can reschedule once you have your i-Card on hand.
You can only take your exam on the date and time you scheduled it. You will not receive credit for an exam you take without the proper check–in with a proctor.
Arriving late to an exam
No extra time is given for latecomers. The system will not let proctors check students in 10 minutes after the exam has begun.
You must sit at the seat you were assigned to at check-in.
For security reasons and as a courtesy to the next test-taker, please log out of the CBTF computers.
Be considerate of the people around you. Talking is not permitted before or during the exams. Please lower your voices while waiting outside in the hallway. Often, there are still students doing their exams in the facility.
Use the restroom before you enter the CBTF. But if you must go to the restroom, sign the Restroom Log, empty your pockets at the proctor table and show empty pockets when you return. No extra time will be given for restroom breaks.
Cellphones MUST be put on silent and stored in your book bag or on the bin provided on the proctor table. They should not be on your person once you are seated at the workstation.
Other Electronic Devices
Headphones, Bluetooth devices, smartwatches, and all other electronic devices must be stored in your book bag or in the bin provided on the proctor table. These may not be used once you are seated. Any electronic devices found with you or on your workstation desk will be taken to the proctor table for storage until you retrieve them at the end of the exam.
Wallets, keys, pencil cases, eyeglass cases, sweaters, hats, watches, food, water bottles, etc. should be kept in your book bags. Nothing should be placed on top of the table except for your iCard, pencil, and CBTF scratch paper.
If you have any problem during the exam, raise your hand. A proctor will come and help you. Remember that proctors cannot answer questions specific to your test. Use your best judgement.
If you missed an exam for whatever reason, you can go see a proctor at the CBTF in person. They will help you sign up for another exam.
The following are policies regarding student items brought to the CBTF.
The CBTF is not liable for any lost or stolen items. Bring valuables to the testing facility at your own risk.
Baseball caps should be worn backwards or stored in your book bag.
Book bags and personal items
For safety reasons, book bags and other personal items must be placed on the racks NOT on the floor.
Coffee cups, water bottles
No drinks are allowed in the CBTF. Place water bottles in book bags and coffee cups on the proctor desk. (We've had problems with accidental spills before and it affected way too many people. We are trying to avoid all that misery for everyone.)
No food is allowed in the CBTF.
Some courses allow Help Sheets. Permission is tagged when you check-in. However, Help Sheets cannot leave the facility and must be discarded inside the lab. You can hand it directly to a proctor for recycling.
You are encouraged to bring your own pen or pencil. Golf pencils are provided in the CBTF.
Skateboards should be stored under the bag racks. They should not be propped up on any of the painted walls.
You can only use the scratch paper provided by the CBTF. Scratch paper cannot leave the CBTF. Please only take 2 sheets at check-in and alert a proctor if you need more.
Unused scratch paper
Please return CLEAN, UNUSED scratch paper to the stack so that others may use them. (Think of the trees!)
Unworn sweaters, jackets
These should be kept in your book bag or draped at the back of your seat. No sweaters on laps.
Wallets, pencil cases
Wallets, pencil cases, and other items should be stored in book bags or on the proctor desk. Nothing should be on the computer tables except for your iCard, scratch paper, and pencil.
If you leave anything at the CBTF, such as your iCard, wallet, water bottle, etc., we will keep them until the facility closes at 10pm. These will then be turned over to the Grainger Library Lost & Found at the Circulation Desk on the First Floor where you can pick up your items during Grainger's open hours.
We understand that final exams are long and grueling. To help you during this time, the CBTF has some special policies specific to Final Exams.
Only covered water bottles and other leak-proof beverage containers are allowed at computer desks during Final Exams. Bottles are subject to inspection. Disposable coffee cups with lids or plastic cups are not considered leak-proof and must be disposed of before entering the computer labs or be placed on the proctor desk.
Food is not allowed in any of the computer labs so please eat something before going to your exam. If you have an accommodation stating that you must have access to food during the exam, please alert the proctor during check-in. Any food must be eaten away from the computers.
Restroom breaks are allowed during Final Exams. If you need to use the restroom, you need to come up to the proctor table, empty out all your pockets on the table, and show empty pockets when you return. No extra time will be given for restroom breaks.
Cellphones and other Electronic Devices
Cellphones, smart and other electronic devices are not allowed and must be stored in your book bags or the bins provided.
All personal items must be stored in your book bag. Nothing should be on top of your table except for a pencil and the CBTF-provided scratch paper.
If you have specific questions about any of the Lab Policies, please contact the CBTF Coordinator, Carleen Sacris at firstname.lastname@example.org.
